Abby Hohlbein caps weekend with clean sweep at Spoon River
Ohio Racer Earns First Win of the Season
CLOVERDALE, Ohio (08/12/25) – It was a perfect Saturday night in the Land of Lincoln for Cloverdale, Ohio's Abby Hohlbein, not only securing her first victory of the 2025 season, but it was a clean sweep at that, conquering heat race as well as main event competition.
While much of her season has been devoted to advancing into the Sprint Car ranks with 2B Racing on the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship trail, Hohlbein quickly found success upon returning to her Midget.
The ace of the J&M Excavating / Raabe Ford No. 11H entry, Hohlbein Saturday’s POWRi / IMRA victory at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Illinois, was a storybook ending to a stat-filled weekend, opening her two-race slate with a USAC Midwest Thunder Speed2 top-ten at Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio, just one night prior; she finished tenth.
“What a great night,” Hohlbein said. “2025 has been a rollercoaster, but picking up a win always helps ease things. I want to give a huge shout-out to my parents for driving me all the way out here to do what I love most, and big thanks to Josh and Kendra Fryman for all their help on the car and with pictures and videos. It’s a team effort, and I’m proud to have such great help and loyal sponsors.”
Although a smaller than usual field at Spoon River, with only four entries making the call, the victory took finesse and patience, as Hohlbein was forced to fend off recent D2 Midget winner and Illinois native, Dominic Bruns.
As noted, Hohlbein opened her weekend with a tenth-place score at Millstream Speedway on Friday, August 8, powering ahead three spots from the inside of row seven. "The Ohio Heartbreaker" opened her evening with the fifth-fastest qualifying time within her respective group, racing on to finish fifth in her respective heat race.
With each of her weekend outcomes considered, Hohlbein now owns four top-tens on the season, officially padding the top-five and winner columns for the first time.

Hohlbein is set to return to USAC Midwest Thunder Midget competition this Saturday for Back to School Night at Montpelier Speedway.
